Wisdom no longer comes with age

A thought:

One out of every seven Democratic party voters was not registered as a Democrat at the beginning of the year, and 60 percent of them cast their ballot for Obama, according to the exit polls.

[...]

Clinton got the support of older voters, with 61 percent of those 65 years or older backing her, according to the polls.

Weigh this data against two quotes from Thomas Jefferson:

We may consider each generation as a distinct nation, with a right, by the will of its majority, to bind themselves, but none to bind the succeeding generation, more than the inhabitants of another country.

Every generation needs a new revolution.

An additional thought on old white people:

Appearing on Comedy Central’s “The Daily Show” Monday night on the eve of the Pennsylvania primary, Barack Obama denied a hot rumor — just started by host Jon Stewart — that he planned, if elected to the White House, to “enslave the white race.”

He quipped, “That is not our plan, Jon, but I think your paranoia might make you suitable as a debate moderator.”

My father’s turning 64 this year, so he’d be part of the “old” demographic rather soon, but from this distance and based on the bits of news he’s got on the upcoming Presidential elections (he doesn’t speak English, so he relies on German news), he favours Obama - mostly because my father grew up in a generation that was / is sexist to the core. It’s tough to break one’s habits, I suppose, so in a way I can understand if older voters took a voting decision based on ethnicity, yet I don’t appreciate of such an approach. Then again, the “old” voters were young during the heyday of the Civil Rights Movement, so an analysis of their voting patterns and motivations might require some extensive research.

hey now be a little nicer to the old folks, they helped get to where you are (intellectually, if not materially)

what makes pesach different from all the other chagim?

aren’t they all celebrating the exodus from Egypt? aren’t we supposed to do that every day?

in some ways i think pesach is about training the generation of revolutionaries. so that chas v’shalom, the idealism of the Divinely guided rebel slaves would not dissapear. To let the kids know its not just a history of liberation, but a future of liberation, if they choose it.
