Israel - graveyard of the Jewish cultures that survived the Holocaust. Where traumatized survivors came to be told that they were ’sheep led to the slaughter’, and told to stop speaking Yiddish. Where they came to be forcefully assimilated into a Hebrew secular culture that was new to them.
I hope that Israel continues to spin apart into distinct, hybrid cultures not focused on Zionism. May it find a way to blend in with the Middle East instead of stand apart. May the words of Ben-Gurion be fulfilled: “I am no longer a Zionist, I am an Israeli.”

translation on that picture for those who only aspire to read (and understand) Hebrew?
“May the people Israel remember the Nakba”

still, isn’t the Nakba the great Palestinian disaster?
I think the Palestinians wouldn’t want ‘their’ catastrophe to be appropriated by Israel, which of course stole everything else from them!!
